about rivulet 7

March 2021

Dear friends,

Already, for many, the transition into the new year has not been kind. We hope this note meets you wherever you are, and that you're not far from accessing support and joy. Please consider checking in with your friends, showing up for direct actions, learning about historical exclusions, and donating to impacted families and mutual aid collectives.

Over the past six months, rivulet has virtually gathered with eight artists in a collaborative, messy, multimedia, pandemic letter exchange project.

Welcome to rivulet 7: exquisite braid & quarantine seeds.

This exchange takes cues from the exquisite corpse poetic/visual form, as a means through which to honor the hundreds of thousands of lives cut short or passed on over the course of 2020–2021. We chose to attend to our connected lives, our histories, and our work together with the processes of death, our physical and emotional distances, political and embodied transitions, landing on the word "braid" for this durational exchange.

In this issue, we're pleased to share:

   a letter laced with ritual directives;
   an herbal guide to countering heteropatriarchal toxicities;
   glowing, wringing, oil hands;
   sharp repeated thrums of questions and birds;
   corporeal insomniac phone-addled emissions;
   an elegy for elders and gaps in the archive;
   a reflection of floating point in recorded voice, text, and image;
   a soundpiece taking on the interstitital and its bindings.

We invite you to read the pieces in exquisite braid & quarantine seeds in the order by which the works were passed forward. We invite you to skip and leap through this issue, in the way life skitters out from itself.

As we continue to advance our idea of the interstitial (and varieties of translation) as aesthetic vernacular, we encourage all to contact us and/or submit to rivulet 8.

Thank you for reading.
